Buhach Colony holds off Los Banos for top spot in large-school baseball rankings

Editor’s note: Comprised of teams from Central California Athletic League, Central California Conference, Valley Oak League, Western Athletic Conference. Records as of Monday, April 29:

1 (1). Buhach Colony (11-3) — The Thunder suffered a pair of losses last week, but those setbacks were to two of the top teams in the state — San Luis Obispo and Righetti. Buhach Colony still has that 1-0 head-to-head win over No. 2 Los Banos to its credit.

2 (2). Los Banos (20-1) — The Tigers’ winning streak reached 16 games as they posted a perfect record and won the annual Dick Windemuth Tournament in Modesto, getting a no-hitter from sophomore call-up Eric Briozo.

3 (4). Sierra (18-3-1) — The Timberwolves defeated Weston Ranch twice last week and clinched the Valley Oak League championship in the process.

4 (5). Atwater (19-4) — The Falcons went 4-0 and captured the championship of the 60th annual Fran Oneto Atwater/Winton Lions Easter Tournament.

5 (nr). Oakdale (15-6) — The Mustangs won their own tournament, and moved back into the Top 5, with wins over then-No. 3 Turlock and a pair of victories over Escalon, including an 11-10 thriller in the title contest.
