This week’s Large-School Athlete of the Week candidates are, in alphabetical order:

Payton Bass, Pitman

One week after Pride running back Jakon Partida earned large-school athlete of the week honors following a record-setting performance at Lincoln, Bass throws his name into the hat with a sterling all-around performance against Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove. Bass rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries as Pitman improved to 3-0. He scored on runs of 7 and 45 yards. Bass also had five receptions for 85 yards, including a 20-yard score. In a 60-36 rout of Davis, Deleon eclipsed his production from all of 2017, a season in which he made 10 starts under center for the Falcons. Deleon had more than 300 yards of total offense and six touchdowns against the Spartans. He was 8-of-11 passing for 204 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried the ball six times for 118 yards and two touchdowns, including a 94-yard scamper. In 2017, Deleon passed for 236 yards and one TD, and he rushed for minus-18 yards. Kyle Jacklich, Central Catholic

With starting tailback Dawaiian McNeely still nursing a shoulder injury and unable to carry the ball, Jacklich shined in an expanded role for the Raiders. He had a career-best performance, carrying the ball 25 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-20 victory over St. Mary's. He gained most of those yards in the second half as Central Catholic abandoned the pass and challenged the Rams to beat them at the line of scrimmage. The Raiders outscored St. Mary's 13-0 in the second half. To vote for Jacklich, click here.

Dhameer Warren, Merced

With the Chicken Ranch Casino Game of the Week hanging in the balance, Warren was a one-man wrecking crew, taking the Bears on his shoulders in a 47-44 victory over Downey. The senior quarterback engineered two scoring drives in the fourth quarter and sealed the game with a first down with less than 2 minutes remaining. Warren had 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns, a 65-yard TD pass to Ezra Morales, and an interception. To vote for Warren, click here.
