This week’s Small-School Athlete of the Week candidates are, in alphabetical order:

Javyn Drobnick, Big Valley Christian

The Lions running back rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-0 victory at Le Grand. Big Valley Christian coach Brian Berkefeld had concerns about Le Grand’s size and depth, but the Lions rode their powerful back to a 2-0 start. Drobnick is averaging nearly 11 yards per carry and has rushed for 523 yards and six touchdowns. He has five consecutive games with 100 yards or more, a streak that dates back to last season. Drobnick was the Week 0 honoree after rushing for a school record 376 yards in a victory over Harker of San Jose. To vote for Drobnick, click here.

Derric Roy, Ripon

The Indians running back highlighted a 42-7 victory over Central Valley, Ripon’s third straight win to the start the season and second over a large-school opponent. While the defense has generated many of the headlines, limiting opponents to just seven points in 12 quarters, a run-first offense bullied the Hawks’ defense. Ripon produced 422 yards of offense, much of it on he ground. Roy led the assault with 148 yards and three touchdowns, including runs of 74 and 7 yards. To vote for Roy, click here.

Isaac Sharp, Hilmar

A returning 1,000-yard running back, Sharp has been efficiently explosive this season for the top-ranked Yellowjackets. Sharp has found the end zone of 50 percent of his carries through the first three weeks, and he was even more prolific during Friday’s 49-0 beatdown of Gustine. Sharp carried the ball five times, scoring four touchdowns while churning out 97 yards. Hilmar has outscored its first three opponents 138-16. It’s scary to think what Sharp’s numbers would look like with a full workload. To vote for Sharp, click here.

Steffin Winston, Denair

The Coyotes are off to a howling start. Denair followed a shutout victory over Woodland Christian with a 56-18 pummeling of Millennium on Friday evening, featuring two running backs: Dylan De Silva and Winston, this week’s Athlete of the Week candidate. De Silva rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, but was edged by Winston. The junior amassed 193 yards of total offense, including 169 yards on eight rushes, and three total touchdowns. To vote for Winston, click here.
